@foolishrats submitted: I found this lil fella on my porch and safely relocated them.
Found in central Texas, wondering what species they are. My mom says Tomato horn worm, but when looking them up they're a lot fatter than this one.
What a little cutie! This is one of the hackberry emperor butterflies in the genus Asterocampa, and not a hornworm. Hornworms, which are sphinx moths in the family Sphingidae, have a single horn on their butt. This sweet lil friend has two head horns and two butt tails instead! Fancy! :)

it took me a bit but i did end up doing @mx-paisley 's dtiys. i tried doing it digitally so i could get the colours right, but alas, digital art is really hard. also john's cloak is loosely inspired by the hackberry emperor butterfly which i chose because unlike most butterflies, hackberry emperors are technically parasites!
#i was looking through lists of butterflies and found the hackberry emperor#and felt the primal urge to base john's cloak of a parasitic butterfly#malevolent#mxpaisleymalevdtiys#john doe#john doe malevolent#john malevolent#malevolent podcast#my art#traditional art

e bugs!!! happy halloween!! this is a Hackberry emperor butterfly! fun fact: they don't drink nectar, they get their nutrients from other places instead, like my skin! this one was drinking my sweat because it was hot out. boys gotta have his supper!
#id in alt#magic 8 ball#so cool to see this behavior in person !! i found it on the ground and was trying to move it so it wouldnt get stepped on- found out later#that they actually crawl around on the ground looking for a lot of their nutrients!#theyre also very naturally curious which is why it was so chill with me holding it#bugs#hackberry emporer butterfly

good morning :-|
#my fucking NEMESIS has arrived. hell world.#<- apparently we have a Lot of hackberry trees which means we get so so so so many hackberry emperors!!#these gross little brown butterflies im sure objectively they're very cute but theres thousands of them EVERYWHERE and they get crushed#everywhere and land on u and have these really erratic flight patterns and being surrounded#by a cloud of 15-30 butterflies everytime u step outside is nightmarish to me. i feel like im really understating the way i am#pretty much in tears every time i have to go outside while these things are in season.#ANYWAY. relatedly ive been outside all morning because my sister was going to help but overslept. so. hgghhh. shaking myself off.#txt

@rosemaryrain364 submitted: We found this beautiful pupae in the garden. My dad is digging a drainage gutter across the back and unearthed it. After a few pictures it was returned, hopefully no worse off for being disturbed.
I think it's a type of Sphinx moth, but can't be certain.
This other guy was crawling up the outside wall of a local coffee shop, no vegetation nearby. I hope it made it! Likely a Hackberry butterfly.
Both seen in or near Corpus Christi, Tx, USA
That caterpillar is absolutely precious. Definitely one of the emperors, but hackberry and tawny look the same to be so idk. But the pupa is definitely a sphinx. Maybe an obscure sphinx.
